Summary of settings for Apple Mail


Username:your full email address, e.g. yourfullname@sample-email.com
Password:same as the old server
 
Incoming server:
(POP or IMAP)
secure.prxy.com
Outgoing server:
(SMTP)
secure.prxy.com
Please use SSL for POP, IMAP, and SMTP

Apple Mail notes:

  1. Authentication (for Apple Mail users) is "Password" (both incoming and outgoing).
  2. IMAP IDLE is supported (an Apple Mail setting, and possibly other mail programs) for IMAP users.
  3. Enter the Outgoing (SMTP) port number explicitly. Using their automatic detection of default ports does not usually work.

Apple Mail steps:

  1. Open Apple Mail
  2. Select menu "Mail" -> "Preferences..."
  3. Click on the "+" at the lower left to add an account
  4. Select "Add Other Email Account..."
  5. Enter Full name (as your recipients will see it), email address, password
  6. Click "Next," get back "Account must be manually configured," click Next.
  7. Enter:
    • - Account type: IMAP
    • - Mail Server: secure.prxy.com
    • - User Name: your full email address
    • - Password: your email password
    Click "Next"
  8. Enter:
    • - SMTP Server: secure.prxy.com
    • - User Name: your full email address
    • - Password: your email password
    Click "Create"
  9. Select the account from the list on the left
  10. The "Account Information" tab should be selected. Next to "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" click the pop up menu and select "Edit SMTP Server List...". Select this account's SMTP server and then click the Advanced pane. Verify Automatically detect and maintain account settings." is not checked. If it was, check "Use SSL" and make sure the port is set to 465. Click OK.
  11. Click "Advanced" tab. Verify "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" is not checked. If it is, uncheck it and verify "Use SSL" is checked and port 993 is entered.
  12. Click "Mailbox Behaviors" tab. Verify these settings: Check "Store ... messages on server" for Drafts, Sent, Junk and Trash. For Trash, also check "Move deleted messages to the Trash Mailbox." Select "Permanently erase deleted messages when: [Never]".
  13. Close Preferences window and save change if prompted
  14. Select the "Sent" folder in your prxy folder list and select menu Mailbox -> "Use This Mailbox As..." -> Sent Mailbox
  15. Select "Trash" folder in your prxy folder list and select menu Mailbox -> "Use This Mailbox As..." -> Trash Mailbox
